Psilocybe Cubensis Enigma is an enigmatic, hallucinogenic mushroom that does not sporulate, meaning it is eternally stuck living through a single generation of clones. Visually the characteristics of this strain are also distinctive, with a blob like formation that resembles a cauliflower, a brain, or a field of corals, with thick, dense mycelium structures. This mushroom is extraordinarily potent and considered the most potent of all Psilocybe Cubensis strains.

It tests at 3.8% tryptamine, to put that into context the average Cubensis has a test content of 0.7%. Making this almost 4 times more potent than a typical Cubensis.

Enigma Cubensis is actually not a species of mushroom. It is a mutant form of Psilocybe cubensis, the popular psychedelic mushroom.

This mutation is called the “blob” mutation and basically means that Enigma mushrooms do not produce spores. Enigma mushrooms need to be propagated by cloning.

It should come as no surprise that the Enigma mushroom is one of the most mysterious types on the psilocybin scene. Its strange, otherworldly appearance and apparently potent psilocybin profile make it a rare and desirable specimen.

The “mule of the mushroom world,” Enigma is a Frankenstein of sorts, created outside of the natural ecosystem by human hand. The mule, the cross between a mare and a donkey, is sterile. Enigma, similarly, does not produce spores and can only be recreated through the art of cloning.

Cultivation:
Pinning is precisely the point at which the similarities in cultivation with the rest of the cubensis strains end, as what begins to grow from that point on can only be described as part of the set from the original Aliens movie. The pinning mushrooms burst forth en masse, with some of them clumping together into larger blobs. From this point on, growth is very slow, and it can take up to six weeks until the fruits are ready to harvest. These six weeks are where most growers face their difficulties with this strain.

Aside from this, the only other advice we receive around growing Enigma is that humidity needs to be kept high throughout the growing process, which means longer than usual. Harvesting should be done once the fruiting bodies soften a bit.

Due to the long fruiting period, Enigma mycelium cakes tend to become contaminated over time. Once contamination sets in, it quickly invades the entire kit, leaving many growers frustrated. Second flushes of Enigma are considered nearly impossible for these very reasons. This means that you need to be very careful throughout all growing phases and make sure you do your best to keep everything as clean as possible at all times.

As the days go by, the blankets become larger and more brain-shaped. They also start to show some blue bruises in certain areas, lose their stiffness and become a bit softer. This is the time to harvest.

The fruiting body looks and feels like a fragile cauliflower and gets bruised very easily. You need to be very gentle when harvesting. You can gently use a knife to cut the connecting parachutes between the fruiting body and the kit and then tear them off.
